Bin collection days are changing for some households across Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough from the week beginning Monday 26 October 2026.

ABC Council says the changes are part of a borough-wide review of collection routes designed to make the service more efficient, reliable and cost-effective as the area continues to grow.

At a glance

More than 91,000 households across the borough will receive an information leaflet containing their new collection schedule and a six-month calendar.

Leaflets are due to be delivered by post between 5 and 15 October, so residents should keep an eye out for theirs and keep it somewhere handy.

The new collection arrangements begin during the week commencing Monday 26 October.

What do you need to do?

Check the leaflet carefully to see whether your usual bin collection day is changing.

You can also check your collection information through ABC Council’s bin-changes service.

From the changeover date, bins should be placed out by 7am on the correct collection day and left in the same usual collection location.

Are bins being collected less often?

No — black, green and brown bins will continue to be collected fortnightly.

For households affected by the route changes, the main difference will be the day on which their bins are collected.

Watch the changeover period

Some households could experience a longer-than-usual gap between collections while moving from the old schedule to the new one.

Residents are therefore being encouraged to check their dates in advance and plan for the transition.

If extra household waste or recyclable material builds up during the changeover, residents can use their nearest Household Recycling Centre.

Why are the routes changing?

The council says the revised routes are intended to respond to population growth, balance workloads more effectively, improve reliability and reduce unnecessary mileage, fuel use and vehicle emissions.

Existing guidance about what belongs in each bin remains unchanged.

LivingABC tip

When your new calendar arrives, check the first two collection dates rather than assuming your normal day remains the same.

A quick note in your phone calendar could also help avoid missing the first collection after the change.
